Weather Guidelines

To ensure the safety of our staff, customers, and vehicles, Mobile Services & Outreach follows specific weather guidelines when operating the bookmobile or attending community events. Weather conditions that may affect regular service, including thresholds for delays or cancellations. These guidelines were developed in consultation with risk management and reflect the “feels like” temperature, which considers wind, humidity, and other environmental factors.

If weather is a concern on the day of your scheduled visit, our team will contact you the morning of the event to assess conditions and confirm any changes.

Regular Service

Regular service run as scheduled when weather conditions fall within safe ranges:

  • Temperature: Outdoor temperatures are between 41° - 92°F. 
  • Wind: Wind speed is below 30 MPH.

Change in Conditions

Sudden change in conditions, such as thunderstorms, lightning, tornado warning, flooding, etc. We assess and adjust the bookmobile schedule to meet safety standards. This may include shortened or cancelled stops.

Cancellations

Cancellations may occur if any of the following conditions — or a combination of them — are present.

  • Temperature: Outdoor temperature is above 92°F or below 40°F. 
  • Precipitation: Moderate rain, snow, sleet, or hail. 
  • Road conditions: Ice, unplowed, or excessive snow pile up. 
  • Air Quality: Above 150 AQI. 
  • Wind: Speeds above 30 MPH.
