After nearly two years of transformation, Denver Public Library is thrilled to welcome the community back to the newly renovated Ross-Phyllis Bigpond Branch Library. The doors open Monday, June 15 at 10 a.m., and the entire space has been reimagined from the ground up.
A Space Built Around Community
This renovation wasn't just about fresh paint and new fixtures. The branch has been fundamentally expanded and updated to meet the neighborhood's real needs. A previously inaccessible basement has been opened up, nearly doubling the library's usable space. A new elevator makes the entire building accessible to everyone, and remodeled bathrooms and infrastructure upgrades round out the improvements throughout. The result is a library that's bigger, more welcoming, and better equipped to serve people of all ages.
Honoring Phyllis Bigpond
The branch now carries a co-name honoring Phyllis Bigpond, a Native American community leader who founded the Denver Indian Family Resource Center and dedicated her life to supporting Native American children and families here in Denver. The renaming was led by a community committee facilitated by the Denver Public Library, a fitting process for a branch that has always belonged to its neighborhood.
Celebrate with Us!
Starting June 15, the library is open and ready for customers. Come explore the expanded space, check out what's new, and reconnect with your community library.
And mark your calendars: Denver Public Library will host a community grand reopening celebration on Saturday, July 11 at 1 p.m., giving a chance to celebrate together everything this branch means to the neighborhood.
