Plaza Voices: New Citizens to be Honored at the Central Library

This Tuesday, April 14, 2015, the Denver Public Library is pleased to host its 15th annual naturalization ceremony at the Central Library. This year's event is a joint effort of the Library's Services to New Immigrants Initiative and its Reference Department.

The Denver Public Library is considering a "Library of Things"--items to be checked out or to use in the library that go beyond what you already expect from us (beyond books, DVDs, CDs, ebooks, etc).

Libraries across the country have been successful with such collections, and we want to know what YOU would check out from the Denver Public Library if it were available! Some ideas are:

It bore the signature, the earliest known signature, in fact, of eighth-grader Elvis Aaron Presley, and was issued by Humes High School in Memphis in 1948. The King of Rock and Roll had borrowed a copy of "The Courageous Heart: A Life of Andrew Jackson for Young Readers."

Zinio for libraries offers full digital copies of your favorite magazines to view on your computer or mobile device. We have subscriptions to over 200 popular and specialty magazines. Your DPL library card will give you unlimited access to this entire collection. Best of all, titles do not have to be returned and do not expire.

Zinio for downloadable magazines is much easier!

Effective Tuesday March 10, 2015, you only need to create one account to sign in and check out digital magazines.

1. One Account – New users will only need to create a SINGLE account to checkout and read magazines. A separate account for is no longer necessary.

2. HTML5 Viewer for PC/Mac – Allows you to read magazines from a web browser (NO need to download the Zinio Reader software or app)

The Denver Public Library Commission will host an open forum for city librarian candidates on Monday, February 23 from 5–7 p.m. at the Denver Central Library, Level B2 Conference Center. The forum will allow the public to meet the final candidates for the Library’s chief officer.

Winter of Reading is coming
