Winter of Reading 2026

Take part in Winter of Reading, Denver Public Library’s annual reading challenge for adults. Designed to meet you wherever you are in your reading life, Winter of Reading invites you to explore books, audiobooks, films, and library services while reconnecting with reading for joy.

This year’s game board features 24 flexible activities, including new prompts created to help adults build or rebuild a reading habit through small, approachable steps. Whether you read every day or are just getting back into it, there’s an easy place to begin.

Pick up a game board at any Denver Public Library location or download the PDF below. Complete five activities in a row to earn a limited-edition mug or pint glass while supplies last. Winter of Reading runs throughout January and February and is open to anyone 17 and older. Materials are available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Arabic.

Audionauts: An Audiobook Walking Experience

Sunday, Jan. 18, 10–11 a.m. | Sloan’s Lake
Take your audiobook on a walk. Audionauts invites participants to enjoy a group stroll around Sloan’s Lake while listening to an audiobook of their choice. Bring headphones, comfortable shoes, and a sense of curiosity. Leashed pets are welcome.

Curiosity Collective: Under the Influence

Wednesday, Jan. 21, 6:30–8:30 p.m. | Avanti Food and Beverage
Where does influence shape our choices, and when do we let go? This Curiosity Collective event brings together two speakers with contrasting perspectives to explore how forces like media, messaging, and healing practices affect how we think and feel. Short talks are followed by open conversation with the audience.

Late Night Lit

Friday, Jan. 31, 2026 | MCA Denver at the Holiday Theater
Debuting as Winter of Reading’s new annual flagship event, Late Night Lit is a late-night literary performance where stories gather after dark. The evening blends storytelling, music, sound design, and visual art, and is co-produced with the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver. Free.

Covers

Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026
Also debuting this year, Covers explores how artists reinterpret creative work. A book cover designer, a music critic, and a musician each share short talks or performances that examine “covers” across literature, music, and visual culture. Free.
