Application to Become a Read Aloud Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Denver Public Library Read Aloud Program. If you haven't already, please read the program details and volunteer requirements.

IMPORTANT! If you are selected to become a volunteer, you agree to meet all of the following requirements and expectations:

  • Complete a Background Notification, Release and Authorization​ form
  • Volunteer during school hours in a classroom setting, weekdays 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Commit to volunteer for at least 14 and up to 30 weeks a year
  • Read to preschoolers aged 3-5
  • Have a reliable mode of transportation
  • Maintain a library account in good standing
  • Attend yearly refresher training
  • Communicate with Read Aloud staff by reading and responding to emails
  • Add developmentally beneficial activities into storytime such as singing, sharing rhymes, and dancing along with reading aloud books
  • Participation in the program will depend on classroom availability and willingness to read at a school that is not close to your ideal location
  • Priority will be given to volunteers interested in the Southwest and Far Northeast part of the city where we have the greatest need this year
