To the extent applicable, any record or other information that identifies a person as having requested, obtained or used specific library materials or services may be disclosed by the Denver Public Library in conformance with C.R.S. § 24-90-119, as amended.
Members of the general public and staff are permitted to take photos or recordings in open, public areas of the library for personal, non-commercial use. As a courtesy, customers (especially those accompanying minors) and staff should be consulted before being photographed or recorded. If a customer or staff member does not wish to be photographed/recorded, they must notify the photographer/videographer to that effect. The use of photographic equipment (i.e. tripods or lighting) is prohibited without prior authorization by the library’s Communications team. Individuals or firms wanting to take photos or videos for commercial purposes must first obtain approval from the City and County of Denver’s Public Affairs Division.
To protect the privacy of library customers and staff, photos and video are restricted or prohibited in certain library locations and/or exhibition areas including, but not limited to restrooms, rooms reserved for nursing, child care areas, museum artifacts, archival materials and areas reserved for staff use only.
Library staff reserve the right to ask any individual or group to cease the taking of photos or videos when it appears to compromise public or staff safety/security or interfere with library operations. Photographers/videographers are asked to be respectful and refrain from disturbing other library users and staff; a repeated failure to do so may result in removal from the library premises. While photos and video of publicly available collections are permitted, customers are solely responsible for obtaining consent or other permission when capturing copyrighted materials.
The City and County of Denver (“Denver”), through its Denver Public Library reserves the right to use photographs, audio and/or visual recordings taken at any branch library for Library purposes, including marketing efforts. This use includes in print and digital marketing, editorial publication, and/or any other communication format related to the support of Denver Public Library’s services and mission. If a customer is solicited by Denver Public Library staff for a photograph/recording that is intended for system wide campaigns, they may be asked to complete and sign a Release Form.
Members of the media are asked to notify the library’s Communication Manager in advance when possible or upon entering the library to alert staff of the intent to photograph or video to avoid potential interruption of library services and operations.
