Program Description

Event Details

Join artist and educator Shawn Bowman in a virtual yarn graffiti workshop hosted by the Denver Public Library and the RiNo Art District, the organization that runs the annual street art festival CRUSH Walls.  We'll be learning techniques for pompom flowers and finger knitting to decorate our own neighborhoods or add to a larger family art yarn bomb sculpture on display in September.  We'll be joined by fiber and performance artist Pam Kravetz of Cincinnati who has decorated everything from museums and buses to an entire ballet corps and has special tips for us on adding whimsy to our work.

Along with getting new technical art skills, we'll learn a bit of history about this unique version of urban art and how a craft that is often considered domestic and "grandmotherly" has become a welcome space for renegades and community artists.

This is an all ages family workshop, participants under 6 may need help from an adult friend.  No prior knitting or crochet experience is needed

You'll need a ball (or two or three) of yarn and a wide-tooth comb to complete the craft from home.  Free art kits (with all supplies except scissors) are available for pick up from the DPLs Pauline Robinson Branch beginning on Thursday, July 23 by appointment; please call the branch at 720-865-0290 or email at robinsonstaff@denverlibrary.org to arrange pick up time.

Please register here in order to receive the workshop link and password; this will be sent out to all registered students the day before the event.
