Program Description

Event Details

An important part of self-care is attending to your mental health. Excessive or prolonged stress can have negative effects on physical and mental well-being and even lead to serious illness. Mindfulness techniques have been increasingly incorporated into mainstream medicine, as an intervention to reduce stress and promote well-being. In this workshop, you'll learn about the research behind Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and how to incorporate it into your life.

This workshop offers an invitation for participants to learn and explore:

  • The physical and mental effects associated with stress reactivity.
  • How to use mindfulness as a mechanism to alleviate distress, increase self-compassion and self-care.
  • The relationship of mindfulness interventions to mainstream medicine.
  • An overview of the scientific evidence supporting its benefits.
  • An introduction to formal and informal mindfulness meditation practices.

This workshop is presented by Claudi Erthal, a Registered Nurse specializing in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) at Brown University School of Public Health. Her work is concerned with the prevention of stress-related diseases, using mindfulness as a mechanism to cope with distress and to promote physical and mental well-being. She uses an experiential approach, in particular an introspective investigation into habitual ways of stress reactivity, and the health effects associated with it, allowing for self-discovery and self-regulation.

Claudi was born in Brazil and has lived and worked in the USA and Asia. She values diversity and is deeply inspired by the expertise in each individual and culture and the knowledge that arises when we gather as equals and allow ourselves to learn from one another.
