GettingUSCovered provides health coverage to uninsured Coloradans with medical conditions. This does not affect large numbers of people, but it is big news for people without insurance who have large medical expenses. Colorado received funding for GettingUSCovered from the federal government, which will subsidize $90 million to the program for the next three years.
To be eligible for the program, applicants must be:
U.S. citizens or those lawfully residing in the U.S.;
Uninsured for at least six months;
Have a pre-existing condition that has prevented them from getting health coverage.
Members of GettingUsCovered receive benefits including the ability to choose doctors from Rocky Mountain Health Plans provider network, a prescription drug plan, and coverage for preventive care. Go to www.gettinguscovered.org for more information, applications and to check rates. Complete applications must be submitted by Friday, August 13 to be eligible for a September 1 effective date.
