A Quilter's Journey: My Road to Denver Opening Reception

Members of the Rocky Mountain Wa Shonaji Quilt Guild will depict their individual journeys to Colorado. These quilts, original in design, are 18" x 24" and will be displayed both vertically and horizontally, with no borders or bindings, so that when hung together the roads and byways the members traveled will connect them to Denver.

Remarks by: Valaida Fullwood, author of Giving Back: A Tribute to Generations of African American Philanthropists, and Founder of Next Generation of African American Philanthropists (NGAAP), a giving circle in Charlotte, NC.

In celebration of bringing jazz to Denver for 30 years, KUVO has teamed up with the Blair-Caldwell Library to create an exhibit sure to take jazz lovers down a musical memory lane! Since its very first record dropped on August 29, 1985, KUVO 89.3 Jazz FM has proudly been offering a mix of jazz, Latino and blues. Located in a studio in Denver’s historic Five Points neighborhood, KUVO has established a go-to hub for musicians from around the world.

1-2 pm: Design & create your own comics with the Denver Zine Library!

2-3 pm: Comics Trivia! Test your DC vs. Marvel knowledge and beyond to win prizes.

3-4 pm: Do comics represent our community? Join us to discuss diversity in comics, and why it matters.

4-4:30 pm: Costume contest -- we'll have multiple categories and more prizes, so make sure to dress to impress!

Connecting Vecinos: Josiah Lee Lopez

Connecting Vecinos is proud to present Josiah Lee Lopez for an artist talk and hands-on stencil workshop.
Josiah will share his experience making public art for two Denver Urban Arts Fund projects located in the La Alma Lincoln Park Neighborhood. In the workshop, we will explore street art styles and basic techniques. Then you will learn how to create your own stencils and spray-paint unique designs.
People of all ages are welcome to participate. Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

The Denver Public Library and the Denver Public Library Commission would like to invite you to celebrate the winners of the Lena L. Archuleta Community Service Award and the Cesar Chavez Latino Leadership Hall of Fame Award on Saturday, September 12, 2015, 10 a.m.-noon at the Rodolfo "Corky" Gonzales Branch Library.

This event will kick off the National Hispanic Heritage Month.
