Join us for this morning matinee performance of Okareka Dance, one of the leading contemporary Maori (indigenous) dance companies in New Zealand. Their iconic work Mana Wahine [Powerful Women] reflects cultural beliefs, colonial history, and the role of women over time, using contemporary as well as Maori dance vocabularies and motifs in a vibrant and moving multi-stage production. Okareka is a company guided by Maori beliefs. These beliefs are brought to its work and its audiences.
This production is part of the 2023-24 Newman Center Presents Dance Series at the University of Denver. The library is purchasing a limited number of seats for community members. Registration is required by clicking here to apply for a ticket. Tickets are being distributed on a first come, first served basis. Email adelpo@denverlibrary.org for help or more information.
