"Personal Geographies" is an exhibit of handmade, mixed media maps by Jill K. Berry and other artists. The show is in the Western History and Genealogy department, on Level 5 of the Central Library through March 31, 2012.

iWorld is a juried show of images responding to the “i-zation” of our culture. The exhibition runs at two venues: The Denver Public Library show features Colorado-based photographers only; the CPAC show features works from across the nation, and includes a solo show awarded to New York-based photographer Charles Ludeke.

In addition to the popular western photos, art, maps and building plans that have been offered in the past, newly digitized materials have been added making searching for digital historical materials much easier:

It’s official; our world has become inundated with instruments of intrusion, invention, interaction, and instant gratification that have changed the way that we interpret our environment. This i‐volution has affected photographers as much as anybody, giving us more ways to see, capture, and share the images that surround us. iWorld invites you to respond to the “i‐zation” of our nation with your best interpretation, inspiration, innovation, or illustration of the world that you see.

Known as "Dr. Colorado," Tom has been involved with the Library serving on several committees for over 20 years, and has donated numerous materials and photos to the Western History and Genealogy Department. He is also one of the Library’s favorite customers.

About the Refuseniks

On June 15, 1970, twelve citizens of the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics purchased every ticket on a flight from Leningrad to Priozersk. Claiming that they were traveling to a wedding, they prepared to board the ten-seater Antonov An-2. Their true objective was to hijack the plane, fly to Sweden and leave their homeland.

Before they boarded the place at Leningrad’s Smolny airfield, government authorities arrested them.

From Smoke to Text displays how telecommunications changes our lives and world. The show, created by The Telecommunications History Group, Inc., guides viewers from smoke signals and invention of the telegraph in the 1800s to smart phones and the internet today.  It asks viewers to envision “What’s Next?”

“BOOKS Keep them (with one exception)… there is one area where printed matter is going to give way to digital content: cookbooks. Martha Stewart Makes Cookies, a $5 app for the iPad, is the wave of the future. Every recipe has a photo of the dish (something far too expensive for many printed cookbooks).
