R.E.M. Live

Summer concert season is in full swing and I'm feeling nostalgic thinking about my favorite concerts of summers past.

There is nothing like seeing your favorite bands outdoors during the summer. The pre-show tailgating. The crazy weather.  The beach balls being volleyed through the crowd. I don't catch many shows these days so join me as I reminisce about some of my favorite annual summer escapades.

Beatle Paul in Denver

Paul McCartney in Denver

Paul McCartney was in town for a riveting show that was a collection of hits from his long career, with a heavy emphasis on Beatles' tunes.

So what's not to like about that? Well, to be honest, I never thought I'd see Paul in concert since I don't see many big shows anymore, considered myself a "John guy," never really liked Wings, and haven't kept up with Paul's current catalog of music. But I have loved the Beatles since I was a very young child, and now my oldest son carries the Fab Four torch, making it clear to me often that he really wanted to see a Beatle. So I thought, what better birthday present for an eleven-year-old boy who loves music?

Tunes and Tubes this Sunday

Blog image

This Sunday's gonna be a great one for Fresh City Life!  Outside we have the venerable Curt Wallach teaching you how to fix your own bike from 1-3, and inside we have the dazzling Esme Collins singing her heart out in the great hall from 2-3. These are two hip young movers and shakers in Denver-

Curt is the owner of The Track Shack and the head of Cheetah Courier- in other words, nothing happens with bikes in Denver that Curt doesn't know about. Covered in tattoos and often sporting a gnarly mullet, Curt is a new mold of Fresh City Life presenter. And Esme, well, Esme is a downright Denver celebrity, comprising one of the three angelic voices in the band Paper Bird- she's got class, she's got style, she's a lady.

I saw The Mountain Goats at The Gothic this evening, and I am ecstatic to report that it was a great evening of music!

This melodic trio from Durham, North Carolina is best known for their raw sound and literary lyrics. Highly prolific, they have released 17 studio albums since 1991.

One of the things I love the most about living in Denver are the fabulous concerts that are held at the majestic Red Rocks Amphitheatre each summer. No matter what your musical inclinations may be, there is something for everyone and each concert is a once-in-a- lifetime experience.

This summer's line-up includes:
