Should read-alouds stop when children reach grade school? Absolutely not!
Join us in the Central Children’s Library for Ms. Gigi’s weekly chapter book read-aloud. Titles are most appropriate for 2nd-5th graders, but all ages are welcome, and we will serve hot cocoa and snacks. Wear your PJ’s, bring your favorite blanket or pillow or stuffie, and get set to get lost in a great book!

Teal Wall, a nine year old girl, is a regular customer at the Ross-University Hills Branch Library. She enjoyed doing the crafts and participating in Summer Reading 2012.
After finishing her monogram art craft she described in her own words what reading means to her:
"Reading is going to new places and having adventures! Also, going to the library and doing fun activities!”
Some of her favorite books to read are the Dear America series.
One of the best things about the Summer of Reading program is that you have the opportunity to talk to kids and see the impact of the books and programs that we offer. One young customer that I had the opportunity to meet this summer was Ava who will be in 1st grade next year.
Ava came up to the Reference Desk and asked if she could sing me a song. I replied, “Of course, I would love for you to sing me a song.” Not only did Ava sing the song, but she also signed the alphabet while singing. I was truly impressed. Kidding around with her, I asked her if she had a CD out yet. Ava ran over to her Mom and said, “Mommy, do I have a CD?” and her mom and I both shared a laugh.

Teen Read Week is October 14-20 this year and the theme is "It Came From the Library." One person will be chosen as our contest winner and will have their sticker distributed in all Denver Public Library locations during Teen Read Week!

Lee McQueen has a Masters of Library Science from State University of New York at Buffalo, a Bachelor of Arts from Xavier University of Louisiana, and coursework in public affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. She has been both a librarian and a bookstore owner. Now an editor and publisher at McQueen Press, she also takes on writing and research assignments.
Calling all Pete the Cat fans! Put on your white shoes and head over to the Green Valley Ranch Branch on Monday, July 9 at 10:30 am to meet Eric Litwin, author of the Pete the Cat picture books.
Sing and dance along with Mr. Eric as he plays guitar and harmonica and shares his musical stories. While fun for all ages, Mr. Eric is a sure-fire hit with the preschool set.
A former classroom teacher, Mr. Eric has performed at Lincoln Center and at schools and libraries across the country. He is the winner of a Parents Choice Award and currently has two books on the New York Times Best Sellers list.

We’ve been hearing about the upcoming zombie apocalypse for quite some time—even the CDC has a zombie preparedness web page! Even though it’s coming, not many people have taken the steps to prepare themselves. The teens at the Central Library decided to remedy this problem. With tons of books about zombies, maps of the Central Library, and a lot of creativity, the teens created a zombie safety plan.
Some of the teens worked on a detailed map showing how we could help with triage and defense. Almost everyone made zombie warning signs and contributed to a list of things we would need at Central to keep safe. After the teens finished, we presented our plan to a member of DPL’s security team. If they implement all of the teens’ requests, you will soon see guard bears and salt moats around all of our branches.
Social networks aren't just about sharing what you had for breakfast and posting oh-so-cute pictures of your niece with jam on her face. They're a big deal. And they're also an excellent way to spread your message as a small business or organization.
Whether you're selling products, offering services, raising awareness or promoting an event, social networks like Facebook and Twitter can lend serious firepower to your marketing efforts. But using social networks to promote yourself takes more finesse than just punching in a random broadcast- you need to craft your message and build your brand.
