Reviewer Rating:

Instead of relying on in-you-face surprises or gore, World War Z explores the larger geopolitical picture and the sophisticated complexities of fighting undead hoards.  The movie adaptation (and adaptation is a generous term) focuses on putting your adrenal glands into overload,  but the book assaults your brain from every direction with situations I'd never think to explore.  And the zombies can survive underwater which is incredibly disturbing.
