Jeanette Winterson's autobiography covers her early years and her search for her biological parents.  She was adopted by a couple who were strict and abused her.  From a young age she loved literature and started an ambitious plan to read authors starting with the A's.  Her extensive reading enabled her to go to Cambridge.  Her attraction to other females was a source of major friction between she and her parents. In her late 40's she started the search for her biological parents.  An interesting, sometimes heart-wrenching read.
