When Elizabeth Blackwell was growing up, women weren’t supposed to become doctors. In fact, there were no women doctors. This is an inspiring picture book about an ordinary girl who does an extraordinary thing. Elizabeth Blackwell receives letter after letter of rejection from medical school until she is finally accepted to a school, where she was only voted in as a joke by a group of male students. Elizabeth faces many challenges along the way to becoming a doctor and even more after she graduates from medical school. Colorful illustrations add to the story and bring Elizabeth to life!
