by Bruno Schulz

Reviewer Rating:

This book is a small compilation of Bruno Schulz’s short stories and a few illustrations. He’s been associated with surrealist movement both with his writing and illustrations, his writing could be categorized as magical realism.  He was writing in the 1930’s and his life ended at the hands of a Nazi Officer in 1942. I find the depths of the human condition he writes about incredible as well as the expanse of his imagination. His writing style meanders, but doesn’t ramble, and every so often packs a punch that floored me when I first found his writing. The Street of Crocodiles is what I recommend from this book, as well as the foreword with a short biographical summary.
