Reviewer Rating:

Darrow is a Red, a pioneer of Mars, helping mine the planet for the precious helium-3 which will help terraform the world so it can be habitable by fragile Earthlings. His family and friends have been working the mines, risking life and limb for generations to achieve this noble goal, only problem is? Well, it turns out that Mars has been habitable for hundreds and hundreds of years and there is a whole society rife with decadence living out their glorious days on the surface while down below the Reds continue to toil and die without ever seeing the sky. But Darrow's life is about to change in drastic and unbelievable ways. I found this book slow to start, the characters didn't grab me, but I felt Darrow got better and towards the end I just couldn't put it down.
