Being a huge Nancy Drew fan when I was a kid, I was curious if the antics of Nancy and her friends Bess and George held up for young kids today. I read the first title in the new series geared to younger readers, the Nancy Drew Diaries, and can report that I still don’t know. The amateur sleuths, trying to discover the saboteurs of a new Alaskan cruise line, now use the modern technology we all rely on, but the author threw so many red herrings and peripheral characters into the mix, that I became quickly confused. I didn’t find the storyline particularly compelling nor the writing as good as many other mysteries for young people. Maybe they’ll like it, but I did not.
