Reviewer Rating:

It looks like a book and is catalogued as one; however, Mitos del maíz is actually a special edition magazine published by Artes de México. The text is in Spanish, but it is translated into English at the end of the book. This issue of the magazine portrays corn and its connection to human culture by sharing legends, pre-Columbian myths, essays by well-known writers like Salvador Novo and Fernando Benítez, proverbs, a glossary of terms related to corn and beautiful photographs. The publication doesn't try to provide a comprehensive look at corn, but rather it shows selected views that enhance our appreciation of this grain that is integral to Mexican tradition and daily life.
