You’ve got to love a book that extols books and librarians.  Matilda is about a precocious young girl who has neglectful parents and looks after herself. Her local librarian, Mrs. Phelps opens her to the world of books.  Matilda has some special skills that help her right some wrongs and leads us to a happy ending. How refreshing to have a book where the children are not a bunch of bullies – in this case the grownups are.  Joely Richardson’s voice brings out an irony that I don’t know if I would have caught if I read the book. Great story and wonderful to listen to.
