Reviewer Rating:

Graphic artist Ellen Forney creatively offers an intimate and dead honest look at her diagnosis of bipolar disorder and her lengthy journey to find the meds that would handle it without side effects that were too debilitating. Forney captures both the manic and the depressive ends of the spectrum in brilliant cartoons as well as the steady presence of her therapist. The insight that her addiction to marijuana was exacerbating her illness and making recovery difficult comes rather late, but  otherwise her trip through all the medications shows that we have a long way to go before truly understanding the chemical nature of mental health.
