by David Sedaris

Reviewer Rating:

David Sedaris is a master of dark, sarcastic wit, especially when it is self-directed. He has nine story and essay collections, and he's been featured on This American Life many, many times. For years, I've enjoyed reading and listening to him, as you can usually count on his work to be laugh-out-loud funny.

However, Let's Explore Diabetes With Owls comes up short in the laughs department. Instead, Mr. Sedaris comes across as cranky and repetitive. Several times, I wondered if this book was a compendium of earlier material, because of its already-read-that flavor. And instead of being funny, the writing came across as bitter.

I heartily endorse previous David Sedaris works. If you have yet to read any of his books, try Me Talk Pretty One Day instead of his newest lackluster offering.
