by Daniel Johnston

Reviewer Rating:

A fascinating double CD, one side with the original lo-fi versions by Daniel Johnston, the other disc filled with the same songs covered by the royalty of indie rock such as, Bright Eyes, Sparklehorse, The Flaming Lips, Eels, Beck, The Starlight Mints, Death Cab for Cutie and more. A highlight is Tom Waits raucous incantation of Johnston's King Kong, a rambling story of the misunderstood great ape. The songs are imbued with hope, sorrow and pain, all genuine emotions distilled into music from Johnston's struggle with bipolar disorder.
