Reviewer Rating:

This made my top all time favorite books list. It's a brilliant fictionalization of Arab and Hebrew mythology; it's compelling for the same reasons as all of those old Star Trek episodes about Data and the personal sovereignty of artificial life forms; there's nothing trite or silly or poorly written about it; the story is woven with incredible artistry-- in summary, it's bulletproof. The little sentence in the back flap that says of the author "This is her first novel" almost seems to taunt normal people of no extraordinary talent.

I loved it, too! Great characters, evocative atmosphere, lots of vivid historical detail. Looking forward to Wecker's next book.
