Reviewer Rating:

Dr. Charlotte Reese is on duty in the intensive care unit of her Seattle hospital the night a Jane Doe is transferred from a rural hospital, the victim of a hit-and-run. With her patient entirely unable to communicate and no one coming forward to claim her, Charlotte asks her boyfriend, Eric, to help her solve the mystery of the patient's identity.

As Charlotte and Eric get closer to the truth, a deep connection between Jane Doe's past and their own present begins to emerge.

With an evocative sense of place and believable plot twists, I found myself riveted by this story. It did tend toward the melodramatic at points, but overall was a thoughtful narrative exploring what it means to be alive, and the depths of suffering humans must--at times--endure.

Highly recommended for literary fiction readers and for book clubs.
