Frida was a fascinating figure, not only as a subject in her self portraits, but in the personal mythology she created about her life. She is a strong, sardonic, and independent woman who was faced with many physical and mental troubles. Herrera's biography depicts Kahlo's development in honest, charming detail. Frida was a unique and gifted painter, but also a great wit. She was brutally injured in a bus accident in her youth. She was a lover to Trotsky, a wife to Diego Rivera, was adopted by the European surrealists, and lived such a full, entertaining, and sometimes tragic life. Despite the fact she has been dead many years now, by the end of this biography when Frida finally dies you will mourn the loss.
