Reviewer Rating:

Junot Díaz’s Drown, is a raw and riveting collection of ten stories detailing the lives of recent immigrants from the Dominican Republic. All encircle family, friends and love, but in heartbreaking circumstances. All the voices in the collection of stories, are trying to embrace their new world while holding on to the very culture that defines them. The entire collection leaves the reader with an array of feelings; sadness, hope, humor, and at times, anger. In every story the reader is able to identify and sympathize on some level with all of the characters. I highly recommend this short story collection.
