by Mary Oliver

Reviewer Rating:

I'll admit--I picked up this book just seeing Mary Oliver's name, and not the title (and somehow missing the dog on the cover). When I got around to looking at it again, and saw that it was all poems about dogs, it made me even happier. Oliver has a way of getting to the heart of human nature, dog nature, and the natural world that is simply lovely. If you think that dogs are a trivial subject for a whole book of poetry, this may not be the volume for you, but if you have been fortunate to have had a dog in your life that brought you joy, just by being him/herself, you'll find many lines in this book that will speak to you. Nice illustrations, too.
