Reviewer Rating:

Celaena Sardothien, the King’s Assassin has a mysterious background, but her romantic entanglements with the Captain of the Guard and the Prince are just as important to untangling the plots against the evil king of Adarlan who wants unlimited power in Erilea and seems to be using her to achieve his goals.  This is a sequel to the first book in the series, Throne of Glass. Author Maas seems taken with setting scenes as though in a movie and sometimes it is enough to gag you with it’s preciousness. Kind of like Celaena-- who is beautiful beyond compare, a masterful fighter, but has a good heart. Playing the entire series as a love triangle between Celaena, the Crown Prince and the Captain of the Guard merely intensifies the cloying factor and detracts from elements that might have genuinely added suspense and thrills.  While this title has gotten some rave reviews, it's imminently forgettable and like many bad movies that have been over-hyped. Long on scenery and short on intelligence.
