by Alice LaPlante

Reviewer Rating:

One man, three wives, who meet each other at their husband's funeral.  Alice LaPlante (Turn of Mind) crafts a taunt, abrupt exploration of the lives of the three wives as Detective Samantha Adams races to discover who murdered their husband, the prominent doctor John Taylor.

The novel is a compelling discussion of love and marriage framed by a confounding murder.  Despite the fact that the plot grew increasingly--and in my opinion, unnecessarily--complex, I was riveted by both the nuanced characters and the mystery.

Overall, this is a welcome addition to the emerging trend of psychological thrillers featuring often-unreliable female narrators.
