by Chuck Close

I am a BIG fan of the books published by Abrams Books for Young Readers and quickly pounced on their new biography about Chuck Close, an American painter best known for his BIG paintings of the human face. Face Book is a massaged and amped up presentation based on an interview with Close conducted by 5th graders from PS 8 in Brooklyn, New York. Close readily admits art saved his life and shares examples of his art from various periods of his life plus his artistic philosophy and technique. The middle of the book also provides a fantastic interactive opportunity to play with art. All the nonfiction trimmings are included - timeline, glossary, resources, list of illustrations. This book, like many in the Abrams series, is a superior read for all ages.
