by Kay Ryan

Reviewer Rating:

Poetry is like abstract art – it looks easy but it’s not. Kay Ryan was the poet laureate of the United States from 2008-2010 and this is a compilation of her poetry. Like all poetry, some will speak to the reader and others won’t. It’s best to just open the book and read whatever poem appears.  Ryan uses a device that is called internal rhyming which can be heard when you read the poems aloud.  Poetry is a wonderful way to evoke images and phrases that you might not find in other written material.
