The teen dream beauty pageant contestants are ready to take the world by storm with their beauty, intellect, and totally amazing sequin gowns. But of course nothing goes as planned and their plane crashes on what they think is a deserted island. The surviving girls at first consider practicing for the pageant, in the hopes they will be rescued right away, but eventually they realize help is not coming so soon. The girls must band together to survive, and in the process discover how strong they really are. They also realize that things are not necessarily what they seem - for instance, what is up with the strange lights on the volcano on the other side of the island? Could it be they aren't alone? With appearances by a platform shoe wearing dictator, an evil corporation, and a ship of reality TV pirates, this book is a wonderful satire that does not take itself seriously and does a great job of questioning our popular culture and expectations for girls.

I just added this to a list of "fun books to read when you haven't read a book since you had a baby 4 years ago" for a friend of mine. I think she'll love it!
