At a fictional school, Westish, there are coming of age lessons for not only the students.
Some VERY funny sections, that were enjoyable and well crafted and some terribly bleak sections, where I wondered if it was ME who had stopped eating and understanding the world around me. This is well written baseball writing too, and a nice mixture of high literature references, of which I got almost none. hah! Maybe you will.
A fairly neat tie-up at the end, but honestly, it would have been a crummy miserable ending if all of it went to hell in a handbasket.
I really liked the characters--Harbach's writing gave me people I enjoyed getting invested in. Dunn was my favorite, what a fabulous character, and what a great roomie he was. Intellectual, perfect at baseball, fastidiously clean, and stylish too!
