by Mark Bego

Reviewer Rating:

I’ve loved Aretha Franklin since I was a kid and first saw her in the movie “The Blues Brothers.” My girlfriends and I made up a dancing/singing routine to the song “Respect”. She is the image of a strong woman who is a survivor and Mark Bego’s biography reinforces it.

This biography is considered by many to be the definitive biography of Aretha Franklin. She recently has survived a serious health issues. But she has a history of overcoming personal challenges: her mother’s desertion of the family as a child, teenage pregnancy, several unhappy marriages and the tragic death of her beloved father. Bego interviewed many key people in her professional and private life as well as the Queen herself.

Aretha Franklin has earned 15 Grammies and was the first woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Bego includes a detailed discography of her musical recordings. I found so real gems within the collection.

Aretha Franklin will always be the Queen of Soul.
