Every year during Banned Book week, I read something that's been challenged.  This year I picked up Are you there God? It's me, Margaret.  I've always heard that Judy Blume's books were good,well-written stories.  I was not disappointed.  Even though it's been many years since I was a 'tween, Blume's description of what girls that age talk about, think about, and care about rang true.  I do wonder why people felt the need to challenge this book.  I assume that some people object to the discussion of any type of bodily function by a non-parent and/or to the questioning of religion.  I found it refreshing (even 40+ years after the book was published), that Blume wrote a book that assures young girls that it's OK to have questions about everything - from their bodies to their religion.
