by Gary Shteyngart

Reviewer Rating:

When the title of a book includes a form of the word 'absurd,' you should expect foolishness and senselessness:  unfortunately, Shteyngart's novel is more frustrating than it is compelling.  The first person narrator is, indeed, absurd, but to a degree that might be described as satire-shock-value: the narrator is not believable and everything he does is ridiculous.  How is a reader supposed to connect with such a voice?  This reader cannot.
