In 2016, Andrea Lani escaped a toxic work environment and the humdrum existence of modern parenting to hike the Colorado Trail with her husband and three children--exactly twenty years after she first hiked the trail. In her book, Uphill Both Ways: Hiking toward Happiness on the Colorado Trail, Lani tells the story of both hikes, examines the changes that have taken place in the landscape and in herself over two decades, and explores the natural, cultural, and environmental history of Colorado. In this presentation, Lani will read from the book and talk about the writing process and the experience of hiking a long trail with kids.
