Event Details
On November 29, 1864, around 675 volunteer soldiers attacked a peaceful village of 750 Cheyenne and Arapahoe people along Sand Creek in southeastern Colorado territory. While many people managed to flee and hide on the banks of the river, the soldiers hunted them down. Over the course of eight hours, 230 Cheyenne and Arapaho people were brutally massacred, many of whom were women, children, and the elderly. In commemoration of the Sand Creek massacre, we ask you to join us for a candlelight vigil.
Please note that we will gather at the Broadway entrance of the Central Branch Library and walk to the State Capital. Candles and light refreshments will be provided.
Sign language interpreters and real-time captioning via CART are available upon request with notice of three business days to SignLanguageServices@denvergov.org or 720-913-8487. For other public accommodation requests or concerns related to a disability: DisabilityAccess@denvergov.org.
Automated voice-to-text captioning is available for all virtual programs. Need help getting set up?
