Navigating Grief and Loss (Session Six): Grief In The LGBTQ Community

Registration for this event is no longer open.

Program Description

Event Details

Grief might be a universal experience, but different communities have unique struggles. This is especially true with the LGBTQ community. LGBTQ elders have witnessed and undergone such struggles as the Stonewall Riots and the AIDS crisis. They are resilient, but they also need support that recognizes and honors their communal grief. In this session, we will talk about grief and loss -- and also support and comfort -- as they pertain specifically in the LGBTQ community. The support and actions of LGBTQ individuals, allies, health professionals, neighbors and caregivers can continue to ensure the strength of the entire community.

This session will be presented by Reynaldo Mireles, BSW. Reynaldo is the Director of Elder Services at The Center on Colfax. Reynaldo has a deep passion for working with LGBTQ older adults and providing a brave space for those coming out later in life.
