Mental Health First Aid- Adults assisting youth, is a virtual interactive 5-hour course (with an hour lunch break) that presents an overview of mental illness and substance use disorders in the U.S. and introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in young people (ages 12-18), builds understanding of their impact, and overviews common treatments. Those who complete the online pre-work (approx two hours self-paced) and the 5-hour Zoom course to certify as Youth Mental Health First Aiders learn a 5-step action plan encompassing the skills, resources and knowledge to help a youth in crisis connect with appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care.
