From the earliest days of civilization, alcohol has been at the center of social rituals and cultures worldwide. But when exactly did drinking become a gendered act? And why have bars long been considered “places for men” when, without women, they might not even exist? Join us for a virtual Women's History Month panel with Mallory O'Meara, author of Girly Drinks: a World History of Women and Alcohol; Chantel Columna, Co-Founder and General Manager of Novel Strand Brewing Company in Denver; Nicki McTague, CEO of Infinite Monkey Theorem, a Denver-based winery; and Dawn Richardson of Rising Sun Distillery

Mallory is an award winning and best-selling author and historian. She lives with her two cats in the mountains near Los Angeles, where she is at work on her next nonfiction book. Bourbon is her drink of choice.

Twenty-five attendees will be chosen at random to receive a copy of Cocktail Recipes from Isabella Beeton's Book of Household Management! Missed the program? It will be recorded and available within a month on Denver Public Library YouTube. Subscribe to receive an alert.
