Jordan Banks is a seventh-grader, an aspiring cartoonist...and the new kid at school. He has always wanted to go to art school, but instead, his parents are sending him to Riverdale Academy Day School, known for its academics. It turns out that Jordan is one of the few Black kids attending this new school. In this new environment, Jordan finds himself code-switching on the bus ride and navigating microaggressions. On top of that, he has to make friends, get along with his teachers, and choose a sport to play. New Kid is a relatable graphic novel, equal parts funny and thought-provoking. Follow along from your computer as Book Explorers reads and discusses questions and context from the book. It's like a book club that you can do anytime, anywhere!
