Brain Camp: Caregiving and Understanding

Ages:

Adult

Program Description

Event Details

In this fourth and final session of Brain Camp, we will begin with the emotions of caregiving, including challenging milestones, stress factors, self-care, and the importance of respite. We will discuss the stigma surrounding the topic of dementia and review the top ten quality of life issues for both dementia caregivers and those living with dementia to gain and bolster empathy, tolerance, and patience. The session will then cover “practical matters” such as advance planning, legal and financial issues, acute care management, special occasions and travel, safety for all, emergency planning, and caregiving resources. We will then explore the awareness factors that make communities dementia-friendly and summarize with a review of the five lists of the ten most important things to know about Alzheimer’s/dementia. The session will include plenty of opportunities for robust Q&A and will end with a discussion of learnings from the four sessions, as well as key insights and outlooks. We will wrap up with a precursory celebration of a world without dementia, a goal that is well within reach!

This series will be led by JJ Jordan of Dementia Friendly Denver. You can learn more about JJ here
