Event Details

Vauhini Vara shares her debut novel, The Immortal King Rao. Drawing upon her previous experience as a technology journalist for Wall Street Journal and New York Times, Vara crafted a speculative world run by the Board of Corporations with an heir-apparent privy to insider information. What could possibly go wrong?

Vara was a recipient of the O. Henry Award in 2015 for the story I, Buffalo published in Tin House and her writing appears in numerous publications. Vara studied writing at Stanford University and the Iowa Writers Workshop, and she is currently a mentor at the Lighthouse Writers Workshop's Book Project.

Joining Vauhini Vara in conversation is Mathangi Subramanian, author of A People's History of Heaven.

Refreshments will be provided in honor of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Additionally, five attendees will be chosen at random to receive a copy of The Immortal King Rao.

Registration required for in-person and online attendance.

Book signing follows program. Copies of The Immortal King of Rao will be available for purchase from BookBar. This event is co-sponsored by the Lighthouse Writers Workshop.
