Join us September 21, 2-3 pm as author Dr. Julia Roncoroni, Associate Professor at the University of Denver, presents her cookbook Cocina Libre: Immigrant Resistance Recipes. Food has the power to nurture, connect, and evoke memories. We celebrate participants who shared their life stories while cooking and eating with us. Each recipe comes with a story, in first-person voice, an intimate glimpse into the lives of those who have faced unimaginable challenges in their immigration to the U.S. This cookbook is not just a celebration of diverse cuisines; it's a social justice initiative, reflecting our commitment to addressing the toll of immigration and detention. By bringing these stories to light, we aim to foster understanding, compassion, and solidarity. Victor Galván, an immigrant rights advocate and cookbook participant, will join Dr. Roncoroni and share his challenging immigration story. A sample dish will be served and copies of the book will be available for sale. All proceeds from this book will be donated to Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition (CIRC).
