Join us for a captivating evening featuring two powerful voices in contemporary Native literature: David Heska WanbliWeiden and Crisosto Apache. Together, they will share insights into their work, explore themes of identity, cultural resilience, and storytelling, and engage in a thought-provoking conversation.
David Heska Wanbli Weiden, an acclaimed member of the Sicangu Lakota nation, is the author of Winter Counts, a national bestseller celebrated as a “once-in-a-generation thriller” by the Los Angeles Times and one of the “best crime novels of all time” by Parade magazine. Named a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice, Winter Counts has earned numerous accolades, including the Anthony Award and the Thriller Award, making Weiden the first Native American author to achieve such honors. His work spans fiction and nonfiction, with publications in the New York Timesand other esteemed journals. He is also the author of the award-winning children's book Spotted Tail.
Crisosto Apache, a celebrated Two-Spirit writer and advocate from the Mescalero Apache Tribe, is the author of GENESIS and Ghostword. His poetry explores themes of identity, cultural survival, and resilience while challenging societal norms. As an advocate for LGBTQIA+ and Native communities, Crisosto Apache brings a vital perspective to contemporary literature, weaving together personal and collective narratives with profound artistry.
Books will be available for purchase through David Heska Wanbli Weiden’s Virtual Bookshop, and onsite sales will be provided by The Bookies, Denver’s beloved independent bookstore.
