Sculptor, Artistic Director Leon Gallery, and Teaching Artist Eric Robert Dallimore will be joining Denver Public Library for an upcoming workshop focusing on building our own maquettes using simple tools such as paper, cardboard, and tape. The workshop is inspired by contemporary artists like Richard Serra, Lee Ulfan, Bernar Vernet, and the visual aesthetics of Ikebana. This 1.5 hour workshop will explore simple paper cutting and paper folding techniques as a way for participants to begin exploring line, space, composition, and form. We will imagine our paper as an uncomplicated study of much more rigid materials used in public art, such as steel, concrete, and even wood.
Paper (thicker is better, but simple printer paper will suffice)
Tape (regular scotch tape works well!)
Cardboard (a cereal box or any other rigid surface will work)
Alternative/Additional supplies (not necessary for the class, but could be great materials to work with…you never know!): string, push pins, metal wire, and glue.
About this series:
Art After Noon brings professional artists from throughout Colorado into your own home through Zoom to teach art and provide engaging, unique experiences. Designed specifically for people age 50+, these drop-in classes will inspire creativity and connection and will help you build artistic skills, all by using materials that you can find in your pantry or cabinets. Over the course of this series, we will explore printmaking, watercolor, collage, and other multi-media art forms. Each class is designed as a standalone experience -- come to as few or as many as you like. You must register for each one individually.
